Mandatory training has a shelf life — first aid certificates run two to three years, working-at-heights and confined-space tickets need periodic refreshers, and site inductions expire per site. On any given day, a workforce of fifty carries a few hundred live certifications, and some are always approaching expiry. The lapse is invisible in daily work: the person is just as capable on Tuesday as Monday. It becomes visible when an auditor samples the training matrix, or worse, when an incident report reaches the line 'was the employee's certification current?'
The training matrix spreadsheet is a fixture of every safety office and it has the same flaw everywhere: it's a record, not an alarm. Renewals need lead time — courses fill up, trainers book out, shifts must be covered while someone attends. A reminder that fires when the certificate is already amber is a reminder that fires too late.

How Signal handles it
- Multiple recipients. The employee books the course; the supervisor covers the shift; the safety officer tracks the compliance rate. All three get the same reminder.
- Reminder schedules. Refresher courses need booking, so schedules start at 60 or 90 days with 30/7-day follow-ups — and daily repeats if the date arrives unbooked.
- CSV import. The existing training matrix imports directly: a row per person per certification, with expiry dates and reminder offsets.
- Dashboard and acknowledgement. The safety officer's view: how many certifications are current, which expire within 30 days, and which reminders were acknowledged with a booking.

Yes — each employee is a contact, attached as a recipient on their own items. They get the reminder directly with an acknowledge link to confirm they've booked the refresher.
How do we handle a certification renewed at a course?
Renew the item with the new expiry date. Signal keeps the previous dates as history — a complete training record per person per ticket.
Can we see overall training compliance at a glance?
The dashboard shows active items, what's expiring within 30 days, what's overdue, and the acknowledgement rate — the numbers a safety meeting actually needs, without building a report.
